For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
The second stanza you show above for a Thanksgiving prayer was not written by Ralph Waldo Emerson. It’s pretty and flows with the rest but if you look into you’ll find that Emerson did not write it. No one knows who did. If you do a little research on Emerson you will also find that he became a Transcedentalist, really wasn’t Christian which is why I questioned the Heavenly Father reference.
